Reporter Sandy Case is on the run and under the gun. Once an aspiring reporter in the Chicago area, her fall from grace was nothing short of breathtaking. Following an acrimonious divorce from Benjamin Morven, her brilliant (and bitter) ex, she winds up in a small town in Vermont.

When a prominent local politician is murdered, Sandy ends up smack in the middle of the story. By doing so, she puts herself in the line of fire of a murderous gang and risks revealing to her ex exactly where she is.

But Sandy isn't known for quitting. Where a sane person would walk away, she starts digging into the story instead. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place; she has a gang on one side of her and Ben Morven on the other.
