The papers on psychoanalytic technique by Ella Sharpe (1875 -1947) are reprinted. There are five original clinical essays by Eric Rayner, Victor Sedlak. Frances Thompson-Salo, Michael Brearley and David W. Riley. Her interest in psychoanalysis developed from her love of literature. Maurice Whelan provides an introduction to this gifted writer.
Maurice Whelan studied philosophy, theology and sociology in Ireland. He worked in London for many years as a field social worker and as a psychiatric social worker. He has an MA in Criminology and Social Policy. He was a visiting academic lecturer and clinical supervisor at the Tavistock Clinic in London. He trained as a psychoanalyst with the British Psycho-Analytical Society and is a member of the Australian Psycho-Analytical Society. Since 1992 he has lived and worked in Sydney. He is a past chairman of the Sydney Institute for Psycho-Analysis. His writings on social work practice, psychoanalysis and psychotherapy have been published in a variety of journals.
