Communication Skills in English for Healthcare Professionals timely responds to the need of a professional group who, in Romania, has not had a true tradition of having communication as part of the curricula, as compared to other scholarly contexts. Communication should not be taken for granted, as though it were an innate gift doctors and nurses (in this case) should possess as part of their calling. […] The work has opportunely in view both linguistic and cultural differences in a possible multi-ethnic context which might, for the uninformed person, seem far from the medical practice "per se", but which in effect leads not only to elementary mutual understanding, but rather - in many cases - to the success of the medical act. As all ESP courses, it addresses adults with a certain degree of attainment language-wise, but lexis, grammar are nonetheless present, this being a predictable part of any serious language course. […] Each chapter - organised in several minimal communicative units - ends appropriately with exercises that facilitate the link of the theory with the real world.
